KATE Garraway has issued a heartbreaking update on her husband Derek Draper in a brand new BBC show.
Walking With Kate Garraway will see the Good Morning Britain presenter speak about her husband’s slow recovery since contracting coronavirus.
Derek Draper, 53, fell ill in March 2020 after contracting coronavirus and has required a long recovery in intensive care, during which he was placed in a coma.
After more than a year in hospital, he was considered well enough to return to his North London home in April.
The TV presenter and journalist has been open about how her family has coped since her husband’s diagnosis.
Kate Garraway's emotional update on husband Derek Draper
Ms Garraway can be seen holding back emotions as she admits feelings of loneliness since her husband’s diagnosis.
The former I’m A Celebrity contestant said: "I’ve had moments of great loneliness and fear. It’s hard because the person I wanted to give me a hug is the person that can’t – and that’s Derek."
"You can probably guess what I’m praying for.
"I think this is probably the first time, certainly since Derek contracted Covid, that I’ve had a whole day to myself with no purpose other than taking in the sights and sounds, just the joy of the countryside."
Speaking about her garden, she tells viewers: "My garden is definitely my happy place and even though it's not big or fancy I love being out there even if the weather isn't perfect, because just being outside and listening to the rainfall and the wind blow through the trees is like therapy for me.
"I can't wait for Derek to get stronger so I can get him outside too as I know it'll be good for him."
