A ROUND-UP of recent cases heard at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
HAYDN JUNIOR ROSS, 26, of Bideford Road, Newport, was jailed for 30 weeks after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and being in breach of a suspended prison sentence.
He was ordered to pay £363 in compensation, costs and a surcharge.
LEO ALEX MICHAEL DEACON, 20, of Valley View Road, Cwmtillery, Abertillery, was sent to a young offender institution for 21 weeks after he admitted two counts of assaulting a police officer and calling the emergency services without a genuine reason which he was prohibited from doing after being made the subject of a criminal behaviour order.
He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation.

SAMUEL JONES, 22, of Gerddi Ty Mawr, Gelligroes, Pontllanfraith, was banned from driving for 21 months after he admitted drink driving with 86 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on the A4048 in Blackwood on October 16.
He was ordered to pay £635 in a fine, costs and a surcharge.
SHAUN WOODWARD, 23, of Heol Deiniol, New Inn, Pontypool, was ordered to pay £217 in a fine, costs and a surcharge after he admitted driving while using a hand-held mobile telephone in Crumlin on April 21.
His driving record was endorsed with six points.

CODY GILBERT, 25, of Llanfach Road, Abercarn, was banned from driving for 18 months after he admitted drink driving with 69 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on Risca Road, Risca, on October 14.
He was ordered to pay £419 in a fine, costs and a surcharge.
COREY GREENSLADE, 22, of Newlyn Road, Pantside, Newbridge, was ordered to pay £199 in a fine, costs and a surcharge after he pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly on Cambrian Road, Newport, on October 17.
LUKE SEBASTIAN LEE THOMAS WINSTON, 30, of St Christopher’s Drive, Caerphilly, was jailed for 18 weeks after he was found guilty of failing to provide a specimen.
He was banned from driving for 30 months and ordered to pay a £128 surcharge.
PAIGE JOAN WOODS, 26, of Sorrel Drive, Newport, was ordered to pay £199 in a fine, costs and a surcharge after she pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly on Monnow Way, Bettws, on October 17.
ELLIS ATKINSON, 29, of Livale Road, Bettws, Newport, was banned from driving for 42 days after he admitted driving whilst disqualified on Llantarnam Road, Cwmbran, on July 11.
He was ordered to pay £846 in a fine, costs and a surcharge.
NATASHA HUGHES, 28, of Aust Crescent, Bulwark, Chepstow, was banned from driving for 17 months after she admitted drink driving with 72 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on Moor Street on October 17.
She was ordered to pay £528 in a fine, costs and a surcharge.
MEGAN TILLEY, 27, of Church Crescent, Bassaleg, Newport, was ordered to pay £816 in a fine, costs and a surcharge after she failed to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.
Her driving record was endorsed with six points.
BETHAN YOUNG, 33, of Aberthaw Drive, Newport, was banned from driving for six months for driving without insurance on Warwick Road on March 16.
She was ordered to pay £574 in a fine, costs and a surcharge.
