The twelve friends who make up the Martin Singers of Chepstow will be giving a concert in aid of the St Anne's Hospice, Newport, at Llantarnam Abbey, Cwmbran.
Whilst being well known for their unaccompanied singing of madrigals and more modern items in a lighter vein, the content of this concert is intended to reflect the venue and its attendant acoustics to enhance the programme.
The music will demonstrate joy, devotion, love and praise in many forms with compositions ranging from the 16th century to the present day, from musing to amusing, from Spirituals to the soaring beauty of religious offerings.
Instrumental items will break up the choral singing and the singers are proud to present the first performance of an arrangement for recorders and keyboard of the famous Canon by Pachelbel. This has been written especially for the singers by Colin Hand, a composer who is very well known for his output of recorder ensemble music.
The concert will begin at 7.30 pm on Friday, February 8, 2008 and the Martin Singers hope that the programme, venue and good cause will encourage local music lovers, as well as the people of Cwmbran and Newport to attend and enjoy the programme, style and abilities of this small choir.
