GWENT has seen another seven deaths due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hour period, according to latest figures from Public Health Wales.
During the latest reporting period, the health body has confirmed that across Wales, another 20 deaths of people with the virus have been recorded.
This includes seven in the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area – the health board which covers Newport, and the wider Gwent area.
According to the figures, it is the second successive day in which seven deaths have been recorded.
It brings the death toll in our area to 1,092 at this time.
Nationwide, there has now been 6,334 deaths due to the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.

Latest new cases
In the last 24 hour reporting period, Public Health Wales has said that another 2,576 cases of the virus have been recorded in Wales.
This includes 412 in Gwent.
Of these, 120 were in Caerphilly, while 97 were reported in Newport.
Elsewhere, Monmouthshire saw 72 new cases, Torfaen 67, and 56 in Blaenau Gwent.
Relative to the population size of these areas, the virus is currently more prevalent in Blaenau Gwent in this region – though the picture is vastly different in other parts of the country.
Cardiff, followed by Swansea, have seen the highest number of new cases, with 275, and 218 respectively.
But, with 200 new cases and a much smaller population, Gwynedd is currently where the virus is most prevalent, with 160.6 cases per 100,000 residents.
