A NEW store selling clothing and accessories made of bamboo has opened in Newport.
Mabboo, located in Friars Walk, opened its doors in the city last Saturday following the success of its Bristol store.
Its aim is to encourage shoppers to buy more sustainable items and was inspired by the owner’s time in China.
“I founded Mabboo back in 2008. I couldn’t believe how many uses the Chinese had for bamboo,” owner Ed Cheney told the Argus.
“We’re a small team from Bristol and thought coming to Newport would be a good opportunity to grow the business.
“I started Mabboo from a market stall selling clothes and we’ve come a long way since then.
Inside you’ll find items ranging from t-shirts to toothbrushes, all of which are uniquely made with bamboo.
Mr Cheney's dog George is also on hand to help customers out with any queries.
“People’s response has been really positive so far. I think people are happy to see a new shop opening in Friars Walk, especially an independent one.”
Mr Cheney said the store would hopefully be a stepping-stone to open up more stores in Wales in future.
