Three more people from Gwent have died from covid-19, the latest Public Health Wales figures show.
The health body has revealed that in the latest 24-hour period, another seven people in Wales have lost their life having tested positive for the virus.
Of those seven, three were confirmed to have been in the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board area – the health authority which covers Newport and the wider Gwent area.
The area has now reported 1,096 deaths due to covid since the beginning of the pandemic.
Across Wales, the death toll now stands at 6,349.
It means that approximately 17 percent of all covid deaths in Wales have occurred in the Gwent area.
In the latest reporting period, some 2,408 new cases of covid have been reported across Wales.
Of these, 468 were in Gwent, with the highest number coming in Caerphilly, where 151 cases were reported.
This was followed by 102 new cases in Monmouthshire.
Newport saw 98, Torfaen 75, and Blaenau Gwent 42.
Nationwide, Cardiff saw the highest number of new cases with 256 – though given the population size, that in of itself is no real surprise.
Relative to the population size, the virus is currently most prevalent in Gwynedd, where their 188 new cases represents 150.9 per 100,000 residents.
Comparatively, the cases relative to the population of Cardiff is much lower at 69.
In Gwent, the virus is currently most prevalent in Monmouthshire, where there are 107.8 new cases per 100,000 residents.
Below, you can see the total number of new covid cases in each area across Wales.
