A FAMILY OF FOUR who managed to escape a fire at their house in Risca on Saturday is asking for help to repair the damage done to their home.
Two fire crews were called to the property on Mount Pleasant Road just before 6am, Saturday 20 November.
The scene on the street was quiet today and the windows of the house have remained opened since Saturday.
It is understood that the family will not yet be able to return to the property.
People in the area have also taken to social media to offer messages of support with a raffle being organised to help raise funds.
Jessica Thomas, whose family were lucky to escape without serious injury, said on the fundraising page that their lives had been “turned upside down” by the fire and that her "whole house needs to be redone" because of the damage.
She added that “anything will contribute to making [their] children’s faces light up this Christmas and that “such an undefined tragic situation has left [them] stuck, emotional and withdrawn.”
South Wales Fire and Rescue service said the cause of the fire in the ground floor living room of the property was believed to be accidental.
All four members of the family were taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
