PUPILS at an Abergavenny school celebrated the end of their World War Two project on Thursday with a 1940s style street party.
Dressed as evacuees, housewives and land army officers, the year five and six youngsters at Ysgol Gymraeg y Fenni listened to Vera Lynn's We'll Meet Again and watched clips of Winston Churchill's famous speech to mark the end of the war.
The Victory in Europe (VE) celebrations were organised for the nine to eleven year olds by teachers Carys Glyn and Suzanne Collins.
Mrs Glyn said: "January is usually a flat month after all the excitement of Christmas, so we thought that a street party-style celebration would cheer the kids up. So we brought the tables in to the classroom and decked them out like they would have been at one of the parties to mark the end of the war.
"They all made such an effort with their outfits and hairstyles. They all had flags and bunting and had food that was around at the time such as spam, bread, jelly and a victory sponge. Being here today is like being in a time warp."
The children made a sign with the VE date of May 8 1945 on it with the school taking a special black and white picture to remember the day by.
