A FUN event made a quite a splash for hospice charity St David's Foundation.
Chief executive Emma Saysell received £11,000 from the Rotary Club of Monmouth as a result of their 43rd annual raft race last September.
A total of 65 teams were sponsored to take part in the race down the River Wye and afterwards spectators were able to enjoy some family entertainment.
Norman Williams, race co-ordinator for the Rotary Club of Monmouth, announced this year's event will be in aid of St David's Foundation for the fourth time.
He said the race was a key event in Monmouth's calender. "It's part of what makes our town such a special place to live."
Mrs Saysell said they were thrilled to be chosen as beneficiaries of the 2008 race and were very appreciative to the hard work that went into organising the fantastic event.
She added 80 per cent of the £4.1 million it cost to provide the service was raised through the generosity of the local community.
"Without the kind support of organisations such as the Rotary, it would be impossible for us to continue to provide and develop the services we offer local people."
Entry to the race on September 7 costs £75.00 for a team plus a commitment to raise a further minimum £100 sponsorship towards the work of St. David's Foundation.
