USK Town Council is appealing for volunteers to help the money needed to save their historical town clock.
The Victorian town clock, built in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee, urgently needs repairs to its brickwork to stop it falling apart.
Unfortunately, the council cannot afford the necessary work and are urging volunteers to help form a Friends of Usk group and raise the money needed.
Usk Town Council clerk Jenny Mee said: "We can't apply for a grant as a council, but we can't afford to pay for the work ourselves.
We need to set up a group who are willing to put their time into fundraising efforts, because we can't lose our clock."
Usk Town Councillor Alec Leathwood said: "The brickwork is crumbling and we need to fix it. We need people who can help us apply for the grants we need and who can get involved in fundraising.
We haven't had an estimate yet, but we think the repairs needed wiill cost about £2,500."
Applications for grants from Monmouthshire County Council are approaching and the deadline for the next application is February 15.
"It would be great if people could get together in time to help apply for a grant, or start ot help fundraise the money needed," said Mrs Mee. "After all, this is a matter with the interest of Usk at heart."
