STARS, fish and circles are just some of the decorative shapes being woven by school children in Bettws over the next few days as they take part in 'Willow Week'.
The 887 children from nurseries and primary schools throughout Bettws will be weaving shapes from strips of willow in an event organised by Bettws High School.
David Owen, Transition Coordinator at Bettws High School, said: "We have organised this event as a means of bringing all the cluster schools in Bettws together.
"We hope by doing events such as this, not just the transition from primary to secondary will be eased, but also infants to junior, and nursery to infant.
"On Friday (January 25) we will be holding an exhibition at Bettws High School where all the children are invited and can come and see their work," said Mr Owen, 59.
Mr Owen said willow was suggested as a material by a teacher at one of the local primary schools who had previous experience in weaving the strips of dead tree.
He also said Bettws High School aimed to have a sculpture made of live willow once their new school building is complete in time for September 2009.
