A mother-of-two has walked off with what bingo bosses claim could be the world's biggest ever win at £1.1 million.

When Christine Bradfield's luck came up last night 600 players at her local club, in Merthyr Tydfil, went into a frenzy.

The bingo-mad 53-year-old, from Bargoed, who works in Blackwood; had unwittingly clinched the biggest ever bingo win in UK history, and possibly the world.

"It was just like a football match when somebody scores a goal. The place erupted," said Steve Hanley-Locke, deputy manager at the Castle Leisure bingo hall, where the win occurred.

"When she walked up to our function room to confirm the win people lined the way as if it was a guard of honour - it was fantastic.

"The atmosphere was electric last night. We've had million pound winners in the UK in the past but nobody has ever surpassed that.

"This is the biggest win ever in the UK - and maybe anywhere in the world.'' Mrs Bradfield, who works part-time at a garage in Blackwood, was still in shock when she phoned husband Ray, a crane driver, from the club Despite scooping the historic jackpot she intends keeping her part-time job and will be back playing at her local club soon.

"I work three days a week in a garage and luckily I don't have to be in until Wednesday, but I'll be there then,'' she said today.

"I won't be giving up work; I couldn't be at home or I'd be out shopping all the time.'' She added: "I just love the game. I have been playing since I was old enough at 18 and I won't stop now.''
