A Blackwood petrol station worker is still in shock after scooping £1.1 million - believed to be the world's biggest ever bingo win.

Christine Bradfield, 53 scooped the money at the Castle Leisure bingo hall in Merthyr Tydfil on Sunday night while playing with her sister-in-law Lorraine Williams, 57 and around 100,000 others on a nationwide link-up.

She said: "It hasn't sunk in at all, I haven't even thought about what I'll do with the money. It's all been a whirlwind?"

The grandmother has vowed to be back in work at the Texaco Service Station on High Street, Blackwood as rostered on Wednesday.

Mrs Bradfield of Bargoed who is married to crane driver Ray, 54 and has two children Nicola, 29 and Gavin, 31 and three grandchildren, will split the money with her sister-in-law.

"Me and Lorraine have discussed going on a cruise, but the only thing that has been decided is that me and Ray will continue going to work," she added.

Fellow worker at the Blackwood service station Claire James, 19 said that it could not have happened to a nicer person.

She said: "We are all so happy for her. She is very popular and will do anything to help anyone like filling in and swapping shifts."

The platinum jackpot was part of the National Bingo Game and represented a rollover that has gone untouched for weeks.

Around 600 players took part at the Merthyr club along with participants from bingo venues throughout the UK.

It was the biggest ever win in the UK and officials believe it surpasses any amount won before anywhere in the world.

Mrs Bradfield has been playing bingo since she was 18.
