We have all been shocked and saddened by the tragic events that are taking place in the Ukraine.
It is truly heart-breaking to see the terrible human cost of this escalating conflict and we stand in solidarity with the people of the Ukraine during these very difficult times.
I know many people want to help and we are currently working with Welsh Government and the Welsh Local Government Association to ensure a joined-up approach in a collective response. This is a very fluid situation and the details of ‘what, when and how’ is not clear yet, so it’s difficult to make any firm plans.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected and I would like to assure the whole community that we will do everything we can to help and that we are ready to respond when needed.
Turning now to covid, we are closely monitoring the public health position as infections seem to be increasing once again. The latest figures are worrying, so we must all continue to be vigilant and adhere to the basic safety principles of space, ventilation and hygiene. Let’s continue to protect each other, as it is clear that covid remains a real threat and we can’t become complacent.
Finally, I’m delighted to announce that Caerphilly Council has been shortlisted for ‘Most Improved Council’ at the 2022 Local Government Chronicle awards. This is huge achievement and is the latest in a growing list of significant award successes. It’s great to see the collective efforts of Team Caerphilly being celebrated on the national stage. Watch this space for the results!
