THERE is a new man at the top of Newport's Chamber of Trade.
Ken Ellis has stepped up from his role of Vice President to take on the mantle of being the Chamber's President.
"I'm absolutely delighted and honoured to be asked to take over at the Chamber," he said.
Mr Ellis was formerly manager of Newport's busy BHS store before setting up his own company CMD - a management development company, and was previously chairman of Newport large traders.
He will now chair the monthly meetings of the Chamber and liaise with the council and other authorities over planning proposals, strategy and developments in Newport's city centre.
Eve Williams, herself a past President of the Chamber of Trade, said Mr Ellis was the perfect choice to take control: "He's lovely man and he will make an excellent President," she said.
"He will get himself involved in whatever is needed."
The Chamber of Trade traditionally alters its president on an annual basis, but Mr Ellis will be the first to take the reigns for a two-year cycle replacing outgoing Colin Thomas.
