CALLS today for a Welsh honours system to mark the achievements of the great and good will be welcomed by some today.
But we have several concerns about them, namely who would be responsible for awarding them and why honour those who have already been recognised nationally for their achievements?
We suspect that any Welsh honours system would firstly recognise the usual suspects - Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey and even our own Joe Calzaghe.
But after you have worked your way through the list of celebrities, sports stars, judges and professors then what next?
The current UK honours system is already viewed with suspicion by many so why create another one that may only repeat what has already been publicly acknowledged anyway?
It could well be viewed as just another attempt to make Wales a separate state and may well become a political hot potato.
We urge caution before this idea goes any further because we fail to see how anyone benefits from two honours systems.
