The service of commemoration was held in St. Bridget's church, Skenfrith, at 3 o'clock on a grey and damp Sunday afternoon. The ringers from Grosmont and Skenfrith rang the bells for about 20 minutes before the service. Inside the church quite a large congregation had gathered. The Rector, Ambrose Mason, welcomed everyone to this simple service of remembrance. The opening sentences and prayer were followed by the hymn "For all the saints who from their labours rest". Soon after this came the time of remembrance. The congregation was invited to come to the table and light a candle in thanksgiving for the one being remembered. When this was done, prayers followed and the congregation sang the final hymn "The day thou gavest Lord is ended" before Ambrose pronounced the Blessing. At the back of the church refreshments were served as people chatted together. Donations in memory of loved ones were for Ty Hafan Hospice.
