THERE are just two weeks left for applications to Uskmouth Power's charitable fund.
The power station in Nash has increased it's community grant fund to £5,000 a year.
Each quarter they will offer one £500 grant and three £250 grants to individuals, teams and organisations in or around Newport who contribute to Welsh excellence or community and environment.
The scheme was launched in 2007 and has already helped good causes in Newport including:
- Newport's world class street dance troupe, the Blitz Boys.
- Reikan Ryu Karate club.
- Christopher Gowell, a successful young Welsh 400 and 800 metre runner.
- South Gwent Children's Foundation's Sparkle Appeal.
- Raven House Trust, who provide food, furniture, clothing and household items to people in need in Newport.
- York Place Action Group who are enhancing the street environment in York Place.
- Cwmcarn New Stage Project, who provide music and theatre opportunities for the school pupils and residents of Cwmcarn.
The application deadline for the first quarter is Friday, 15 February, and the first winners will be announced in March.
Due to a shortage of applicants for environmental projects, one of the first awards will be allocated specifically to the environment category.
