A FATHER of two children with visual impairment hit out after being told he cannot park to drop them off outside the entrance to their school.
Eleanor and Joseph Wait, aged 11 and 9, of Cwmbran, both suffer from achromatopsia, a rare condition which means they have poor vision and can barely see in direct sunlight.
Their father, Gareth Wait, 39, says the family, who have a blue badge for disabled parking, have always parked outside the front gates at Llanyrafon Primary school because the children cannot walk long distances unguided.
But in September, a traffic warden asked him to move his car.
Since then, the Waits have had to move their car on another two occasions.
Mr Wait says when he initially complained to police he was assured it was legal to park there, but has now been told the warden is within her rights to move him along.
Mr Wait said: "The school have been really supportive and asked if I would like to drop them off in the school car park, but I don't want to do that.
"Their glasses already differentiate them enough, they want to walk through the school gates just like all their friends."
A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said officers have been liaising with Mr Wait and Torfaen council's Highways Department, and are looking into the case.
She said road safety for all users is a priority and if any driver is causing an obstruction they will be asked to move. She said the blue badge guidelines state people must not park in school entrances.
