JOE Calzaghe has already got an MBE and was named BBC Sports Personality of the year in December, but now he has been nominated for a new honour.
Caerphilly Council have decided to bring in the power to award "Freedom of the Borough" to outstanding individuals in the area.
And Councillor Allan Pritchard, who requested that the new powers be considered, nominated Joe Calzaghe for the honour.
If Joe Calzaghe chooses to accept the award there will then be a special ceremony where he would be awarded with a solid silver casket and the Freedom of the Borough scroll inside.
In the past, Freedom of the Borough granted freemen special privilleges, but today it is an honorary title which holds no legal rights.
Councillor Pritchard said: "I think he's the greatest athlete that Wales has ever produced, he's done Caerphilly proud and is an inspiration to so many people."
