A CONTROVERSIAL proposal to close a Newport primary school is set to take the next step.
Informal talks were held with govenors, staff and parents at Brynglas Primary School over a month.
Although concerns were raised they were not over "unexpected issues" according to a council report.
Councillor Bob Poole, cabinet member for young people's services, has now decided the process should now move to the formal consultation phase.
Some parents have vowed to try and save the school which could close in August 2009 because of falling pupil numbers.
It is proposed to move St Mary's RC Primary in Queens Hill to the site but this has angered parents at that school.
