A SCHOOL in the heart of a Newport estate was awarded top marks by an official inspection team.
Milton Infants in Hendre Farm Drive, Ringland, received seven grade ones - the best possible marks given by Estyn.
Inspector Wil Williams described it as a good school that demonstrated many outstanding features in all aspects of its work.
He also said the quality of leadership and management was outstanding.
"All groups of pupils succeed regardless of their social, ethnic or linguistic background and make consistently good progress."
Mr Williams added the quality and breadth of experiences provided for pupils was an exceptional feature of the curriculum.
"Rich opportunities are provided for them to explore and investigate the world around them, both indoors and out, and in the locality and beyond."
Head teacher Sue Wilson said they were very pleased and attributed their success to good teamwork.
"We just believe that everyone here is really important. Our school motto is 'love learning, love life'," said Mrs Wilson.
Milton Infants is in the Newport East constituency of AM John Griffiths and he congratulated the staff, pupils, parents and governors on its "magnificent" report.
"It is the innovative and effective ways of dealing with the greatest challenges of society which truly impressed me."
