THIS year's summer holidays look to be bigger and better than ever for Newport children, after the the organisation running leisure activities in the city was handed an extra £100,000.
Newport Live has been given the funding from Newport City Council via the Welsh Government's Summer of Fun fund, which is worth a total of £5 million.
The organisation has said this will allow it to run a range of fun activities this summer.
This year’s line up of events, activities and programmes will be across sport, leisure, theatre, arts and culture with activities more accessible that before.
Newport Live plans to target communities across the whole of Newport, inviting them to their events or activities in the community.
Andrea Ovey, director of business development at Newport Live said: "The additional support from the Summer of Fun fund means that as well as the activities we run every year, which are popular, this year we have been able to add brand new ones including many that are completely free or highly subsidised too.”
Activities this year include Welly Walking to Crafty Saturdays, intensive swimming lessons, multi-sports camp and youth track cycling sessions.
The Big Splash returns to Newport city centre this weekend, with Newport Live suggesting that the summer will be their most fun yet.
Ms Ovey added: “Our rookie fitness courses will offer young people a chance to the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a fitness instructor in one of our centres.
“It has a huge 50 per cent discount; our cycling track sessions are completely free, and the cost our intensive swimming lessons has been reduced, too.
“The Riverfront Theatre will also be running theatre performances and cinema screenings free of charge to certain groups within the community throughout the summer school holidays”.
Newport Live is a charitable organisation, the money they make is reinvested into the services and facilities they offer.
This means that Newport Live customers are supporting the local community through the delivery of these projects and activities.
