A SMALL fire believed to have been at popular Newport eatery Gem42 was actually on the adjacent railway, it has been revealed.
Yesterday the Argus reported firefighters had been called to Bridge Street to reports of smoke, which appeared to billowing from Gem42.
A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they had attended a fire in the area at around 11.13am on Tuesday, July 19, with a stop message received eleven minutes.
Although video footage appeared to show Gem42 was the source of the fire, it has now been confirmed it was in fact on part of the railway near the building.
The food venue – which boasts three AA Rosettes – remains open for business, and intact, with people’s bookings unaffected by the incident.
