CARNIVAL QUEEN: Pill carnival queen competition has now been arranged for Sunday, June 22, 4pm. Mr Tony Wright, MBE, of Real Radio, will be there to compere the event. Girls must be aged five years to 16 years on the day of the carnival (August 25, Monday bank holiday). First prize of £50 for the chosen queen plus £25 for the runner-up. We give prizes to all winners, which consist of five court ladies and five flower girls. All entrants must live in Newport. FUNDRAISING: The fundraiser for the disabled man mugged after getting his pension raised £710. Mr Frost collected £131 cash plus £20 voucher, A B Florist raised £100 and Shiela Gill raised from the Irish Club and Picton £479, totalling £710. Many thanks to all.
PRAM RACE: The pram race this year will be held on Sunday, May 25. The race starts at 2pm. The fun day will start noon-6pm.
We need teams from local pubs, clubs, organisations and local firms to take part. The race starts at the Picton and a mother, (men dressed as mums) and a baby in the pram, buggy, trolley, wheelbarrow (no electrical) to dash down the route, downing free drinks at designated pubs to the Millennium Centre. A cash prize of £50 for the winner. This is also open to anyone over 18 years.
