All the youngsters who are currently working on projects with the Ringland Community Association, the history, media, geography, and art/photography departments are all working on community projects.

Many thanks go out from the community and school governors to all the staff involved.

Also to Angharad Bishop, who has been on a creative writing course and excelled. Angharad is a Welsh athlete, although currently she has a foot injury.

Dan Harrison and Chris Hartland, who represented Welsh schools U18 against Scotland at Dundee recently.

Mitchell Williams, who has been accepted for a rugby scholarship at Rugby School.

Ex-pupil Paul Jarvis, aged 35 years, is the new consultant at Calderdale Royal Hospital, specialising in emergency care for children.

Paul joins the team from Leeds General Infirmary, where he was the locum consultant.

HARTRIDGE HIGH NEW SCHOOL BUILD: This is still on schedule for work to commence in June/July 2008, and the pupils, teaching staff and governors are looking forward to this new futuristic building which the children of this community well deserve.

BEECHWOOD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH MAY FAYRE: On Saturday, May 3, from 10am-noon the church is having a May fair.

This is always a fine social occasion when the community can get together and meet up with old friends and make new ones.

They will have various stalls comprising books, bric-a-brac, games, toys etc and please note also the refreshments will be up to the usual mouth-watering standards.

Make an entry in your diary for an enjoyable hour or two with the knowledge that you are supporting your local church.

ALWAY PRIMARY SCHOOL: Congratulations to staff and governors at Alway Primary School, who have again received the Basic Skills Quality Mark for the third time.

CONGRATULATIONS: To Ben Blakesley, Welsh FA schools finals, representing Newport Schools Under 11-s in goal.

VANDALISM: There is concern over the continuing vandalism of the school's outdoor classroom on the school field. The head teacher, Mr Hughes, would be very grateful for any information which could lead to the culprits. The latest incident included uprooting of the seating and the gate being kicked off its hinges.

MOBILE PHONES: Things you probably never knew your mobile phone could do - there are a few things that can be done in times of emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life-saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: The Emergency number worldwide for mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialled even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. It saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

It works fine! It has been tried out and it can unlock your car over a mobile phone in these circumstances!' HIDDEN BATTERY POWER: Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

How to disable a stolen mobile phone: To check your mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone!

* # 0 6 # A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone gets stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless.

You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

DANCE MASTERS: Somerton Dance masters MJB were successful in gaining titles in the Welsh Championships.

Senior Duo, Catherine Powell and Angelica Whiterfield, first place, aged 15 years.

All these young people were successful in becoming Welsh Champions and are heading for Germany for the world championships in June. Well done to all of you!

Also, pride must be felt for the rest of the group who didn't make it this time, you'll get them next time.
