TRIBUTES were paid to a Newport councillor who passed away this week.
Pat Bull, 66, who was seeking a second four-year term as a Liberal Democrat councillor in the St Julians ward, died on Saturday.
As a result, the poll in the ward has been postponed until a date to be decided by the city council's election returning officer.
Mrs Bull, who lived in Constance Street, had worked for Newport social services, but after retiring in 2004 decided to stand for the Liberal Democrats, having been a party member for some years.
Her son Stuart Bull, 37, said she had been suffering cancer after a during her time at the council.
"She was a very proud women, so few people really knew.
"Working for the community was one of the few things which kept her going."
He said Mrs Bull, who was born in Mansfield Woodhouse in Nottinghamshire, had helped him through some of the tougher periods in his life.
"I've never known a bad word said about her, she will be really missed."
Fellow St Julians candidate Ed Townsend, who led the Liberal Democrat group in the previous council, said she had been "exceptionally keen" to represent the interests of the people who elected her.
She was also a governor of Durham Road infants and junior schools.
- Donations and flowers for Mrs Bull should be passed to the St Davids Foundation.
