EBBW Vale councillors paid tribute to former mayor, councillor and school governor Harry Evans, 78, who has died.
Gwent police said a 78-year-old man was found deceased in Emlyn Avenue home on Monday.
Mr Evans had worked as vice-chair of Penycwm School, a councillor for Badminton.
Ebbw Vale North ward councillor John Rogers also paid tribute to Mr Evans, saying he was shocked by his death.
"He was a great councillor for Badminton. Harry was a very direct and honest person, and an asset to the community."
Penycwm head teacher Robert Dickenson said he had worked as a governor at the school since 2002.
"He's always been a huge supporter of the school. We're all devastated by the news."
