YOUNGSTERS in Newport celebrate cultural differences as part of their school's international week.
Pupils at St David's Roman Catholic Primary School, Park Crescent, took part in activities such as cookery, hand-painting, drama, dance and an Indian puppet workshop took place, and the children were encouraged to dress in costumes associated with their class's appointed country.
Each child made a passport and visited classrooms representing Egypt, Canada, Greece, The Republic of Ireland, India, Kenya and Mexico.
They received a stamp saying they had visited the country and were quizzed on facts about what they had learnt as they left.
Parents from different ethncial groups were encouraged to lead workshops and talk to classes about their background, helping the children to understand their fellow pupils' cultures.
Headteacher Bree Ellsworth said: "It's a lovely way to learn. Many of the children will go on to work abroad as young adults so it's helping to prepare them for the future.
It was the second year the school had held the event and an art exhibition will be held next weekto enable parents to view the pupils' work.
Newport Museum and Heritage Service and the Gwent Music Support Service both helped with activities.
