BOSSES at a Gwent factory today announced plans for a £16 million expansion that will see the creation of 125 new highly-skilled jobs just a week after we revealed 15 jobs were under threat.

Last month Blaenavon-based Doncasters cut 19 jobs, and last week it said 15 jobs could go after a management review of the company's operations.

But last night the firm, which manufactures precision components for the aerospace industry revealed plans to expand the site and build a purpose-built premises.

The investment will enable Doncasters to undertake work in Wales that was previously sub-contracted to a specialist supplier.

Bosses said the company had considered locating the new facility in Poland before opting for Blaenavon.

Work on the Assembly-backed project will begin next month.

The new building will house the manufacturing of engine-ready components.

Doncasters were unavailable for comment as the Argus went to press.

It is unclear whether the new devolopment will affect the 15 possible redundancies being considered.

Last month, nineteen agency and contract staff at the site did not have their contracts renewed after the completion of projects they were employed to support.

Doncasters currently employ 340 people and supply products to many of the world's leading gas turbine engine makers.
