A DISGRUNTLED Cwmbran resident claims he is being victimised by Torfaen Council over his plans for a driveway.

Roger Lockett, 53, lives in Maendy Way and has reached boiling point after watching his neighbours use their drives, while his plans are stalled.

He insists the bus stop outside his home is preventing the application from going through.

A Torfaen Council spokesman said: "The bus stop isn't the issue. We received three applications for driveways from Maendy Way residents and turned them all down."

The council pointed out that Maendy Way is a local distributor road, meaning the amount of traffic travelling along it is too dense to allow driveways.

The spokesman continued: "If Mr Lockett's neighbours have driveways it's because they are traditional features unique to their homes and not something we approved.

"Mr Lockett if they can't grant him permission for a driveway at the very least the council should provide me with adequate parking.

A driveway seemed the best solution to Mr Lockett, as traffic restrictions in Maendy Way means parking is available only on the opposite side of the road.

When off-loading the food shopping the Lockett family mount the car on the pavement in order to get closer to the house when carrying the bags in.

According to them this often results in a visit from the parking warden and the burden of regular fines.

Mr Lockett said: "I could park legally opposite my house but it's a main road and makes off loading the shopping dangerous. I feel like we're being victimised by the council."
