THE Conservatives romped to a predictable victory in Monmouthshire as Labour suffered some embarrassing defeats.
The Tories gained five seats and now hold 29 of the 43 council seats.
Labour lost four seats but gained another two to see their number of council representatives reduce from nine to seven.
And the Liberal Democrats claimed a night of success as they gained two seats to boost their number to five.
