A DRAMATIC decrease in sales of alcohol on licensed premises to underage youngsters working on behalf of Caerphilly's trading standards is being reported.
From 71 per cent of sales attempts in 2006/07, the figures were slashed to five per cent in 2007/08.
Trading Standards, alongside other partners including Gwent Police, has worked tirelessly to ensure such sales were cut and remained at a low level.
A number of initiatives were introduced specifically aimed at reducing the figures for test purchase.
Extensive training was given to more than 65 bar staff throughout the past year. Many staff now had a formal qualification to help them, and their employers, stay within the year.
Kathryn Peters, senior trading standards office, said they hoped to further improve on these "excellent" results.
