A FAMILY dynasty continues in Rogiet after voters elected Linda Guppy to Monmouthshire County Borough Council in last week's poll.
Councillor Guppy, 43, follows in the footsteps of her father Gerald Robbins, 76, who served as a councillor for Rogiet since 1987 but lost his seat in 2004.
Councillor Guppy, standing for the Liberal Democrats, took the first possible opportunity to win back what had been the family seat for 17 years.
"My dad lost his seat at the last election and this was the first chance I had to win it back. He's been very supportive of me," she said.
Councillor Guppy has also served on Rogiet Community Council for eight years, where she is joined by her father who has been there since 1986.
In 2003 Mrs Guppy became Council Chairwoman, having the stewardship handed down to her by her father.
"I'm so proud of her and very excited that the dynasty is continuing," Mr Robbins said.
"She's always been interested in doing things for the community and serving the town."
Mr Robbins, who'd always stood and served as an independent, was at his daughter's side whilst the votes were being counted and she said the two had always shared a vision for success.
"I remember when he was standing I'd help him when he'd campaign and deliver leaflets. It was a huge family affair."
Mr Robbins has four daughters in total, but Linda is the only one to follow his political path.
In 2001 Mr Robbins was awarded an MBE for services to the community in Rogiet.
