COLEG Gwent is proud to sponsor the 999 Hero category in this year’s South Wales Argus Pride of Gwent Awards, held in association with Caerphilly County Borough Council.
Taking place at Rodney Parade on Tuesday, December 6, the ceremony will see a total of 13 awards handed out to some truly inspiring people from across the region.
Last year, war hero Simon Weston hosted the event, when it took place online due to the pandemic, and Ben Jones and Tim Blacklock were jointly named winners of the 999 Hero Award.
The award being backed by Coleg Gwent goes to a person from the police, fire, ambulance or coastguard service who has saved a life or lives, or who has shown bravery in the past 12 months.
As a household name in Gwent, the college plays an important role in many of our lives.
“It’s a friendly, inclusive and diverse college spanning all age groups, where everyone is welcome to study a wide range of academic and vocational courses close to home,” said a spokesperson.
“The industry-standard facilities at their five campuses (Usk, Ebbw Vale, Crosskeys, Newport and Cwmbran) make it a great option for school-leavers and adult learners alike.
“So, whether you’re just starting your career journey, progressing to the next level, developing a new skill, or changing direction, Coleg Gwent’s full time, part time and university level qualifications offer something for everyone.
“This award-winning college attracts thousands of students each year in pursuit of post-16 education.
“Alongside offering high-quality teaching and fantastic learning resources, the college provides extensive support services, enriching extracurricular activities, and excellent outcomes too.
“Achieving consistently high A-level pass rates – currently 96.6 per cent – and ranking as the joint top performing college for vocational learning in Wales, Coleg Gwent is one of Wales’s top performing colleges, located right here in Gwent.
“Taking pride in the Gwent region, the college is forging strong links and close working partnerships with a network of local employers through their innovative Employer Partnership Pledge.
“So, Coleg Gwent is supporting our local economy and community in many ways, by shaping the curriculum of the future, offering work experience opportunities, boosting employability, and upskilling the future workforce in our area.”
