A closure of part of the M4 at J26 eastbound for roadworks this weekend will not go ahead.
Junction 26 off Malpas Road had originally been earmarked for potential closure on Friday, October 13 for three days as part of works to waterproof areas of the bridge deck - the same reason for another recent weekend closure.
Now it's been confirmed by Traffic Wales that there will no longer be roadworks on that stretch of the M4 this weekend.
A spokesperson for Newport City Council said: "Our highways team met with the South Wales Trunk Road Agent yesterday and today (October, 11).
"They have confirmed to us that there won’t be any work taking place this weekend along the M4."
It is understood there had been concerns raised that roadworks could impact people travelling to two big weekend events.
The Newport Food Festival takes place from Friday, October 13, to Sunday, October 15, while Wales take on Croatia at the Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday at 7:45pm.
The roadworks will now not go ahead this weekend. Traffic Wales has not confirmed any dates to reschedule the closure, although there are overnight works planned for October 21-22 and October 23-26.
Editor's note: This article has been updated after confirmation the provisional planned closure has been canceled.
