A ROUND-UP of recent cases heard at Newport Magistrates' Court.

CHARLIE HALL, 28, of Darent Close, Bettws, Newport was sentenced to a 12-month community order after she pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer and causing criminal damage to a Nissan Qashqai on July 23.

She must complete a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement, pay £100 compensation, a £100 fine, a £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

SAKAWAT HUSSAIN, 30, of Marlborough Road, Newport was banned from driving for eight months for speeding at 64mph in a 50mph zone on the M4 motorway eastbound between Junction 25 and Junction 24 on July 4.

He must pay £218 in a fine, costs and a surcharge.

JORDAN TEWKESBURY, 30, of Fairwater Square, Fairwater, Cwmbran was banned from driving for six months for driving while using a hand-held mobile telephone on Varteg Road, Blaenavon on April 15.

He must pay £398 in a fine, costs and a surcharge.

MARK DOUGLAS EADES, 46, of Alexandra Terrace, Tredegar must pay £359 in compensation, a fine, victim surcharge and costs after he pleaded guilty to fraud by advertising a cordless drill but failing to send the item on February 24, 2021.

STEPHEN LARKIN, 40, of Cae Garw, Oakdale, Blackwood was jailed for 18 weeks but that sentence was suspended for 18 months after he admitted having an axe in a public place, causing criminal damage to a window and a public order offence in Risca on August 31.

He must complete a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement, 30 days of an accredited programme, pay £150 compensation and was made the subject of a two-year restraining order.

KATIE ELLEN ESCOTT, 38, of Sol Invictus Place, Caerleon, Newport must pay £251 in a fine, costs and a surcharge for speeding at 64mph in a 50mph zone on the M4 motorway westbound between Junction 23a and Junction 24 on the A449 off slip road on March 18.

Her driving record was endorsed with three points.

BRENDA PARKER, 59, of High Cross Road, Rogerstone, Newport must pay £312 in a fine, costs and a surcharge for speeding at 37mph in a 30mph zone on the A4048 in Argoed, Blackwood on April 25.

BANJAMIN JOHN BUCKLEY, 32, of Treberth Grove, Newport must pay £195 in a fine, costs and a surcharge for speeding at 63mph in a 50mph zone on the M4 motorway westbound between Junction 23a and Junction 24 on the A449 off slip road on April 6.

JONATHAN MARK PRING, 50, of William Lovett Gardens, Newport must pay £398 in a fine, costs and a surcharge for speeding at 60mph in a 50mph zone on the M4 motorway eastbound between Junction 28 and Junction 27 on April 6.
