NEWPORT is getting in the festive spirit - with Christmas cabins set to open in the city centre tomorrow, Friday.

And for those with more of a sweet tooth, then you will be pleased to hear that Pancake House will also be opening.

Pancake House will be serving up freshly-made pancakes and Belgian waffles, both with a variety of toppings available and hot fresh donuts.

Keeping an eye over the cabins is a white light-up reindeer, while numerous Christmas trees can be spotted throughout the centre.

Newport will be counting down to Christmas this weekend.

Countdown to Christmas will be held in Newport on Saturday, November 18 and will feature live music, fairground rides and celebrity guests, culminating in the official switching on of Newport’s city centre Christmas lights and a breath-taking fireworks display.

A special guest will be in attendance on the day to help Newport’s mayor - Cllr Trevor Watkins - push the button to light up the city centre for the festive season.

The event will be headlined by West End star Sophie Evans.

The event is organised by Newport Now Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with Newport City Council, Friars Walk and Newport City Radio.

This year's event will include festive activities for all the family, live music and even a Santa's Grotto.

Children will be able to see Father Christmas and get a photo with Cwmbran Centre elves.
