A GWENT town’s vital Post Office remains closed, more than a year after it was “temporarily” shut.
Cwmcarn Post Office closed in November 2022 following the retirement of the postmaster.
Although at the time the Post Office said it was seeking retailers interested in taking over the service, more than a year later the organisation has announced it has been unable to do so.
In an open letter, network provision lead Santosh Samudrala said there had been “no suitable opportunities to re-establish a service”, and as a result the branch would remain closed.
“We would of course consider any appropriate options if there are any significant changes in the area in the future,” he said.
“However due to the length of time the branch has been closed, we would need to satisfy ourselves that any new opportunity would be sustainable for both Post Office Ltd and the operator.”
He added the closest Post Offices are in Abercarn, Newbridge, and Crumlin.
