HOMES in Newport could lose heating and hot water for more than four hours as the network is replaced, in the final phase of the Duffryn project, with an energy refund credited to customer accounts.
Works for the Duffryn District Heat Network Replacement Project are in the final stages. This means that while changing heating and hot water supply from an old network to a new one, homes will go through a short period of heating and hot water loss.
A spokesperson for Newport City Homes said: "We’re sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. We appreciate your patience at this time, and the ongoing support shown to our colleagues throughout the duration of this project."
The energy loss is estimated to be for over four hours.
When will works begin?
The works are set to take place across the Duffryn estate in stages, lasting a total of three weeks. They are due to start on Wednesday, April 17, and will end on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
Will I be reimbursed?
As houses will lose heating and hot water for more than four hours, Newport City Homes will give those affected a £20 credit into their heating accounts.
This credit will go into the account at the end of the project on May 31, 2024 and residents won't need to claim the payment.
After the works are complete in May, residents should get a letter from Newport City Homes with details on the reimbursement.
Why are the works being done?
The essential works are part of the new Duffryn District Heating System, where old pipework is being replaced, with plans for the system to be in use by spring or summer this year, with May being their ideal target.
The new system was announced in September last year, with work commencing in October, following consistent reports of leaks that had been impacting the heating and water pressure in homes across the estate.
More information on the project can be found on the Newport City Homes website.
