POLICE have been baffled by the discovery of a severed sheep head in a Monmouthshire field.
The Gwent Police rural crime team believe the incident in Cefn y Coed Road, Llanellen, occurred some time over the weekend.
The farmer found the animal's head and fleece in their field and reported it to Gwent Police at around 2.45pm on Sunday afternoon, March 24.
Investigating officers believe the incident may have happened overnight.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police told the Argus: “We’re appealing for information after a sheep’s head and fleece were discovered on farmland in Cefn y Coed Road, Llanellen.
“The report was made to us at around 2.45pm on Sunday 24 March and may have occurred at some time overnight between Saturday 23 March and Sunday 24 March.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 101, or send us a direct message on social media, quoting log reference 2400096961.”
