A BUTCHER shop in Gwent is celebrating its 80th birthday with a party buffet for those that attend the celebration.
Matthews Family Butchers, located on Newport Road in Cwmcarn, celebrates 80 years in the business on Saturday, May 25, having opened in 1944.
Part owner of the butchers, Stephanie Matthews, hopes to have a great turnout as she claims "we might not see the location when it gets to 100 years".
Ms Matthews, 36, owns the butchers with her business partner, Kevin Nash, 50.
The shop had been owned by her family since Stephanie's grandmother Eileen was 16, having worked there for three years prior.
"She passed away two years ago but nan worked there since she was 13, when it was called Worthingtons in the old location," said Ms Matthews.
She explained that while the shop began as a butchers, "we do cakes, sandwiches and other things too".
"We've had to really diversify to be where we are today," said Ms Matthews.
She added: "Traditionally it was a butchers when it was opened in 1944. Father started doing cooked meats and tinned goods. Then we are your greengrocers, we are a bakers, butchers and deli."
The shop is holding a party buffet on Saturday, May 25, between 8am and 1pm, where those that attend can enjoy some of Matthew Family Butchers' offerings.
Matthews Family Butchers can be found at 116 Newport Road, Cwmcarn, NP11 7LZ.
