The pick up and drop off charges at Cardiff Airport changed on Tuesday (October 1).

Drivers using the drop off zone at Cardiff Airport used to be able to do so for free for up to five minutes.

While for pick ups, it used to cost £1 for up to 10 mins and £2 for 10 to 20 minutes.

But these charges have now changed, with new tariffs coming into force from Tuesday.

Now anyone picking up or dropping off at Cardiff Airport will be charged £3 for the first 10 minutes (with extra charges after that).

"This slight change ensures Cardiff remains competitive with other UK airports," Cardiff Airport officials said in a post on Facebook.

Readers have their say on new Cardiff Airport drop off and pick up fees

We asked our readers what they thought of the new drop off and pick up charges introduced at Cardiff Airport, and it was clear most people weren't happy.

A poll showed 91% (328 votes) of people were against the increase in fees, while just 7% (24 votes) were for it.

The other 2% (8 votes) were undecided on how they felt about the change.

Meanwhile, readers also took to social media to share their views on the new drop off and pick up fees.

One person, commenting on Facebook said: "'Remains competitive with other UK airports' .. Rubbish, having a decent amount of flights would make cardiff competitive.

"Instead of forcing people to park at the BAMC roundabout or lay by up from the Toby carvery, make it free parking, give people a chance to get there 30 mins early, buy themselves a drink or something to eat while they wait.

"The place isn't busy so the car parks will never be full anyway!"

Another Facebook user commented: "Cheaper than most UK airports but no one wants an increase in any charge."

A third person added: "Absolutely ridiculous, they should be making efforts to encourage as many as possible to use the airport, not adding to reasons not to."

While this reader said: "If it ain't broke don't fix it. Leave alone and try to encourage a decrease in landing charges, THEN you can justify putting charges up when you have a lot more people daily. Simple."

But not all readers were against the change, with many pointing out there was still a free alternative available for both pick up and drop offs at Cardiff Airport.
