DRIVERS will be forced to travel an extra 15 miles for around two months due to a temporary road closure.
Wye Bridge and Wyebridge Street in Monmouth are set to be temporarily closed to motorised vehicles to motorised vehicles.
The closure will be in place overnight for around two months, from Monday, October 21 to Friday, December 20 between 8pm and 6am.
The closure is to enable South Wales Trunk Road Agents to complete an urgent installation of traffic signals and the related furniture, as well as the associated civils works.
The contractors Alun Griffiths Limited will be completing the work on behalf of South Wales Trunk Road Agents.
Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times as far as is reasonably practicable along with pedestrian access.
Please note that some footway closures are required for these works but alternative arrangements have been made for pedestrians, more details can be found in the attached documents.
The order shall come into operation on the anticipated start date shown above and will continue to be in force for a period not going beyond 18 months or until the works which it is proposed to carry out have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
The closure will be at both roads' junctions with the A40, with the diversion routes signed.
When the Wye Bridge is closed, drivers will be diverted down the A40, then the A4136 and vice versa, and when Wyebridge Street is closed, drivers will be diverted down the A40, then A466 Dixton Road, A466 Monk Street, A466 Whitecross Street, A466 St James Square, A466 St James Street and vice versa.
