DESPITE the presence of Aled Jones and Steps' 'H', Ian Watkins, the shining star of this show was the car. It definitely got the biggest applause.

The first half did seem a little slow in parts and the sound was not too clear, although that seemed to improve in the second half.

Aled Jones, in the lead as off-the-wall inventor Caractacus Potts, fits neatly into the role.

Ian Watkins was excellent as the evil child catcher and succeeded in eliciting some panto-esque boos and hisses.

Edward Peel, who has appeared in a host of television shows, including London's Burning and Doctor Who, is the infantile Baron Bomburst.

Edward Peel and Kim Ismay, as Baroness Bomburst, were much more successful in this respect.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang runs until August 30.
