A Gwent crisp-lover has her "dream job" after she was chosen to judge a competition to decide a new flavour of Walkers crisps.
Laura Welsh, from Chepstow, will join a panel of food industry experts, including Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal, to help decide which of over a million public entries will make it into production from the “Do Us a Flavour” contest.
From the six flavours the judges choose to go onto supermarket shelves in January, the public will vote for a winner which will go into permanent production.
More than a thousand people applied to be a judge, and a Walkers spokesman said Miss Welsh stood out for her “firm but fair nature and self-proclaimed love for crisps”.
Miss Welsh said she was submitting her own ideas for new flavours, duck and hoisin and scampi and lemon, when she saw the opportunity to be a judge on the website and entered.
“I’ve always been interested in food and I love to cook. I’m really looking forward to debating with the other judges and having my own input.
“It’s good to get a member of the public’s perspective and I’m sure we will have differing opinions.”
Flavours submitted so far include roast dinner, pork and apple, peanut butter and chocolate.
“I’m sure some flavours will be really crazy,” Miss Welsh said. “But some will be sure to get my mouth watering.”
Miss Welsh, who works as teacher in Monmouthshire, will join the panel next month.
The winning flavour will be announced in May and entries can be viewed at www.walkers.co.uk
