NEWPORT residents can make every word count by taking part in the Big Read challenge on Wednesday, October 29.
Everyone is being encouraged to participate in the event which is part of the National Year of Reading.
Newport Community Learning and Libraries have organised a series of activities including the ambitious Big Read challenge.
The aim is to see how many words residents can read in one day and they can add their contribution to the total via text, email and telephone.
A running total will be displayed at the Riverfront on a giant totaliser designed by schoolchildren and the city's arts development team.
Lots of activities will be taking place at the Riverfront between 10am and 4pm on the same day to encourage people to get involved.
Tickets cost £2.50, or £7.50 for a family ticket, and include a picnic lunch. They are available from the Riverfront box office or by calling 01633 656757.
