A NEWPORT man is on trial, accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in a room above a garage.

Lewis Pitman, 21 of St Stephens Road, denies raping the teenager after she had been drinking cider, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Ieaun Bennett said the girl told the police that she and a 15-year-old girlfriend walked around the centre on Saturday May 12, last year.

At one point they persuaded a member of the public to buy a bottle of cider which they drank.

They continued wandering around the city and started talking to someone known as Cookie and spent some time with him.

The girls went into a house occupied by people the alleged victim described as "refugees."

The girls then met three young men, friends of Pitman and they all went to a garage behind Pitman's home.

Upstairs said Mr Bennett was a sort of bedroom area containing a double bed. The girls were led there and joined by Pitman.

During the night, alleged Mr Bennett, the victim claims she was raped by Pitman.

"She was incapacitated by drink and has a vague memory of being lifted from one mattress to another," said Mr Bennett.

"She was in no position to consent and did not."

Mr Bennett said she recalled coming around in the morning.

She was unaware of where she was and concerned about what had happened to her called her parents and her mother collected her.

She told the police later she had memory of intercourse taking place.

"Those two girls must have been in a terrible state," said Mr Bennett.

Pitman was arrested on December 3. He denied raping the girl and said no one had slept overnight in the garage.
