More than £1m worth of jobs are available at a jobs fair being held in Cwmbran.

Bron Afon Community Housing has already employed 36 extra people since it was formed following the transfer of 8,000 homes from Torfaen Council on 31 March.

Now it’s getting ready for the next big recruitment drive for staff to support its work to invest £187m before the end of 2012 to bring all 8,000 homes up to the standards set by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Duncan Forbes, chief executive of Bron Afon, said: “We knew that we would need more than 100 extra employees to help us reach our goal of bringing all 8,000 homes up to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard.

“These new jobs are going to help the local area as it’s likely this iswhere a lot of the applicants will live.

“As well as bringing new jobs we are investing in apprenticeships and have recruited 45 young people who are enjoying learning their trade with us. We will also be recruiting ten more apprentices over the coming months.”

Twenty seven jobs including personal assistants, surveyors, and control centre operators are being advertised in the local press, job centres, and at www.bronafon.org.uk.
