THE CWMBRAN prison protesters took to the streets again this weekend to reinforce their message that the town is not the right place for the construction of a 1,500-place prison.
Saturday's march was the group's last show of strength before the closure of the public consultation in under two weeks' time.
Members of the Oppose the Prison Action Group have already demonstrated en-masse and have handed over an impressive 6,000-name petition against the proposal to build a prison on the former police training college in Greenmeadow Way.
It is now up to the Ministry of Justice to decide whether it will house the new prison in Cwmbran or in one of the other three potential sites under consideration.
Whatever the outcome, the organisers and supporters of the campaign can pat themselves on the back for their efforts to make their voices heard.
Without people prepared to take such action, the decision-makers would be able to ride roughshod over such communities.
We commend them for the vigour of their campaign and for the determination to get their point of view across.
